Custom Literature: Developing your method and message
Do you have a message you'd like to put on paper? Here's a few things you'll want to consider to zero-in on your best choice of format, style and more.
1. Consider your audience and the content you want to include. Who you are intending to communicate with can make a difference in your approach and content. Content, in turn, will largely determine the type of project— catalogue or brochure, etc.

2. Decide on your literature's format. The size and format of your finished project is somewhat determined by your content. Still, you will have to decide between formats like full-page brochures or tri-fold formats. Key considerations include where and how you will distribute your literature, whether you will mail it frequently, and so on. Other than practicality, these decisions will depend on your tastes and/or your budget. Here at Riverhouse, we're always ready to discuss advantages and disadvantages of the formats you're considering.

3. Evaluate the importance of colour. While black and white (or one-colour) printing can communicate effectively, it's no secret that using full-colour increases your literature's impact. That impact comes at a price, however, as actual print costs alone can easily be 5-10 times greater with full-colour printing. Evaluate your needs and your budget to determine if you want to use full-colour throughout your project.

4. Create a basic outline of your text content. Riverhouse provides copy-writing and editorial services, however, the clearer your vision is of your intended message, the easier it is for us to focus on what is important to you and your recipients.

5. Consider what photos to include. The quality of your end product is heavily dependent on the quality of your photos. While photos can be enhanced and improved, there is no substitute for excellent graphics. Riverhouse offers on-site photography and product photography, or works with you or your photographer to ensure that your graphics contribute to your message.

6. Estimate how many copies do you need. The number of copies you need can determine where and how your project is printed. Digital short-runs often lower costs, but, unfortunately, also reduce quality. On the other hand, if you're considering higher quantities (often 1,000+) classic offset printing will give you unbeatable print quality and cost per copy. Again, Riverhouse is here to assist in the decision-making process, so don't hesitate to give us a call.
